The Polymer Industry witnessed a price hike over the last 2 years on account of oil price increases. This resulted in affecting the polymer chain of industries. Oil prices had a tremendous impact on the growth of the Auto Industry reminding us that oil must be used for the right purpose and conserved. Energy conservation polymers only consume 5% of oil resources and most of it goes for improving the quality of life, conservation of energy if produced, processed and applied correctly. Thus its usage will continue to grow in a healthy manner as far as quality of products is maintained for long life applications. Throwaway applications are a cause for concern and one should try and avoid bad practices in the interest of the common man. One should not take the current prices of oil for granted, though its reserves are depleting and causing concerns to all in the world. Hence conservation of oil and energy has to be practiced by all including the polymer industry. The developed world has experienced many problems on account of disposal of plastics and Indian conditions are no different. Yes we have a better understanding of the problem based on the experiences of the developed world, and economic conditions of a highly populated country like ours cannot ignore the common man’s interest.
